The CBU-59 APAM (AntiPersonnel/AntiMaterial) weapon was developed at China Lake in the 1970s as a successor to Rockeye II. It uses the same Rockeye dispenser, but has 717 smaller BLU-77 bomblets fitted into the case. APAMs will kill a wide variety of targets from troops to medium tanks. In addition to its armor-piercing effect, it also has antipersonnel fragmentation and incendiary features. In the Gulf War 186 APAMs were used.
